Diwali message from Nadia

Yesterday, Thursday November 12, marked the start of Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights. The festival, which is traditionally celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs, takes place over five days, with the biggest celebrations planned for Saturday.

Nadia Whittome, MP for Nottingham East, said:

I would like to wish a very happy Diwali to everyone celebrating.

Diwali is a special time for many Nottingham residents. This year’s celebrations will be different, and I understand how difficult it will be for many people to spend this time away from their family and friends. I urge everyone to stay safe, follow public health guidelines and recreate the spirit of the festival in your homes.

Diwali symbolises the triumph of light over darkness – a message that’s particularly needed during these difficult times. I hope that the festival brings lots of joy to you and your loved ones, and be a reminder that hope will always win.
