Responding the coroner’s verdict in the inquest into the death of Philippa Day, Nadia Whittome, MP for Nottingham East, said:

“Philippa Day was failed by an inhumane and oppressive benefits system that does not meet the needs of vulnerable people.

“She was treated appallingly by the DWP and Capita, who made incorrect decisions, failed to provide adequate mental health training and needlessly insisted on face to face disability assessment.

“The government must urgently commit to reforming the benefits system to place the needs of marginalised people at its heart before more lives are lost.”
